CAMPAIGNERS hope that forthcoming talks with NHS bosses about the future of Purbeck s paramedic car will help safeguard its future. Last month concerned residents told Swanage Town Council about the importance of the ambulance car to the local area. Many residents believe it is set to be withdrawn from service, despite assurances from Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (DCCG) that no decision has been made to date. Now, Debby Monkhouse, Swanage town councillor and one of the campaigners pushing to secure the future of the service, says a joint reply – from the DCCG and South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) – has offered up an engagement event to look at possible options.

South Central Ambulance Service inducted its first cohort in October and will take on a second group today. The service is launching the official BSc (Hons) Paramedic (Apprenticeship) degree with six other ambulance services. The degree was devised by the University of Cumbria and will take two years to complete, compared to three for a traditional degree in paramedic science The new apprenticeship programme will teach around 1,000 paramedics in the first two years, significantly increasing the national paramedic workforce , they have said.

M5 closed in both directions after police incident between Junctions 28 and 29
Traffic has been halted
CCTV motorway traffic camera of the M5 Northbound Motorway - J28, Cullompton
Junction 28-29 of the M5 has been closed off by police in both directions after a police incident was declared.
Reports state that all traffic is being temporarily held both southbound and northbound.
The incident is said to be taking place around J28 A373 Station Road (Cullompton / Service Area).
Traffic was stopped southbound just prior to 13:15, and the northbound at around 13:30.
