A sneak peek at downtown Wilmington s upcoming Seabird restaurant

Just recently, the window coverings at the upcoming Seabird restaurant at 1 S. Front Street came off. Chef Dean Neff said passersby have been peering in the windows for a look at what’s coming ever since. He first started the process to renovate and open the space that formerly held River Rat and The Whiskey more than a year ago, in November 2019. Now that he’s this close to opening (perhaps by the end of April), he shares more about what’s ahead.   Getting a feel for the past Neff and a team of building professionals wanted to recreate an authentic look at the renovated space, and they went to great lengths to recreate it. Neff has a photo of the 1920s era façade of the building. New windows match the look and let in lots light to the new, open space. (New tiling at the entryway are another nod to the past.)

The Foolish Explosion of 1891 in Rock Springs

The summer of 1891 in Rock Springs witnessed one of the most explosive and foolish tragedies that has been recorded. The blast, which shook the small mining town, was recorded in the Rock Springs Miner newspaper report on July 18, 1891. According to the report, around 3 pm, a “loud, long and deep” explosion occurred, which sent a cloud of smoke “well to the heavens.” Advertisement - Story continues below. What appeared to be the entire town at the scene, the crowd of citizens rushed to mine No. 6 with little hope for the survival of nearly 24 families in the neighborhood. “But happily and miraculously all escaped; only one of the many children, some of whom were playing within two hundred yards of the place, was injured,” the report read.

The emerging US strategy appears to be centered on imposing a regime of isolation on Russia and China with the aim of ultimately effecting regime change in both countries through a combination of political, economic, and military measures. The military component consists of building up naval, aerial, and space capabilities for blockade and strike directed at these two countries and any countries aligned with them. The ongoing shift of US military capabilities away from protracted land warfare toward naval and aerial long-range strike using hypersonic weapons and swarming munitions, evidenced by the US Marine Corps’ shedding of its tanks and heavy artillery and the US Army opting for long-range missile arsenals and even anti-ship capabilities, indicates a preference for “non-contact” warfare in the future, with client states being assigned the role of “bleeding” in future conflicts. The fact that even the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, the senior military advisory

Wilmington chefs are bringing national trends to local restaurants

When Ash Aziz sold some of his Wilmington area restaurants in 2019, he wanted to take a step back from the industry,  “But, as it turns out, semi-retirement is not for me,” said Aziz, who owns Circa 1922 and Pizzeria Il Forno in Wilmington. “I don’t golf well.”  Instead, he’s been thinking about bringing at least one new restaurant to the area.   “We are just in the design state right now,” he said.   The unnamed coastal-themed restaurant is in the works for Autumn Hall off Eastwood Road and still nine or more months away. But Aziz said he has been invigorated after taking a bit of a break, and after what has been a difficult year for restaurants.
