CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela: The Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peopleâs Army (CPP-NPA) operating in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) and the Cordillera region continues to âweakenâ after their guerrilla fronts disintegrated, according to the Philippine Armyâs 5th Infantry Division (5th ID).
Major Jekyll Julian Dulawan, 5th ID Public Affairs Division chief, said their focused military operations resulted in the complete disbanding of four guerrilla fronts of the CPP-NPA.
Dulawan was referring to the CPP-NPA Southern Front Committee and Central Front Committee, Guerilla-Quirino/Nueva Vizcaya Regional Committee of the Cagayan Valley operating in Region 2 and the Guerrilla-Ifugao and Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee that operate in Ifugao.

According to 61
st IB Commander Lt. Col. Joel Benedict Batara, his men clashed with about 60 NPA rebels, who belong to the Suyak platoon of the NPA’s Southern Front Committee, in the mountainous village of Tigmarabo on Saturday.
The encounter lasted 20 minutes until the rebels withdrew in different directions, leaving behind their camp.
Government troops found several items from the abandoned NPA camp. It included two 12-gauge shotguns, a hand grenade, 10 backpacks, two mobile phones, a binocular, a projector, and subversive documents.
