One man was killed and two people were injured Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in west Abilene, according to an Abilene police news release.
The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. in the 5300 block of South First Street, where a westbound Honda Odyssey attempted to turn left off the roadway towards the center median. A westbound 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup struck the Honda on the driver s side, the release said.
Traffic on South First Street was diverted for more than an hour, according to scanner traffic, as first responders were on the scene.
Honda van driver Jean Paul Zihalirwa, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, and passenger Mbirembano Mwamini, 40, was transported by ambulance to a hospital, the release said.
Abilene Man Killed In Early Morning Crash
ABILENE, TX The Abilene Police Department has confirmed a 53-year-old Abilene man was killed in a crash early Wednesday morning.
According to APD, officers were dispatched to the 5300 blk. of South First Street at approximately 6:00 a.m. for reports of a two-vehicle crash. When officers arrived at the scene they found a 1998 Toyota Tacoma and a Honda Odyssey involved in a crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed Jean-Paul Zihalirwa, 53, and Mbirembano Mwamini, 40, were traveling west on South First Street in the Odyssey when they attempted to turn left towards the center median. The driver of the Tacoma, 24-year-old Skylar Karnas who was also traveling west then struck the driver s side.
