Former Tory MP and Union Unit head Luke Graham said a law change could be used to put off indyref2 THE former head of Downing Street’s Union Unit believes the Tories should change the law to prevent Holyrood from holding a second independence referendum until at least 2034. Luke Graham, who was sacked from his role on the Union Unit in February following Boris Johnson s highly criticised trip to Scotland in February, argued a law should be passed preventing referendum repeats for 20 years after the first. However, he said that this law should not be made to look like a “knee-jerk response to a pro-independence majority” in Scotland. As such, he said the Tories should wait until 2022 or 2023 to bring it in.
Alba Party leader Alex Salmond has said the First Minister “lost her nerve” on Scottish independence in 2017.
The former SNP leader was speaking on a podcast with independence supporters after he admitted his party were unlikely to get any seats in the Holyrood elections.
As well as Ms Sturgeon, Mr Salmond took aim at the leadership of the SNP, who he described as “graceless”.
He also singled out MP John Nicolson, describing him as a “poser”.
The Alba Party leader also claimed his party had helped the SNP in constituencies such as Banff and Buchan Coast.
