City of Milwaukee ending some COVID-19 restrictions June 15

Limits on gathering sizes and occupancy will be lifted for businesses and events, and events hosted after June 15 will not need to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city s Health Department, Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson said. Officials will continue to recommend physical distancing whenever possible. Mask wearing will still be enforced indoors, and the department will follow guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for outdoor spaces, she said. We are really leaning into the masking restriction, that is it, she said.  Officials are also encouraging people to adhere to safety plans but are moving from restrictions to recommendations, Johnson said.

Milwaukee vaccine clinics to open at three public libraries

View Comments Editor s note: This story has been updated to reflect a new start date and hours for the library vaccinations.  The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases continues to decline across Wisconsin as the Milwaukee Health Department prepares to open vaccine clinics at three public libraries starting Monday. This consistent presence at our community libraries is part of our initiative to bring vaccines to where people are, and we hope this will be a great opportunity for parents to get their children vaccinated as well, Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson said. Zablocki Library, 3501 W. Oklahoma Ave., and Washington Park Library, 2121 N. Sherman Blvd., will host vaccine clinics on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

How Wisconsin minors 12 and up may get Pfizer vaccine in Milwaukee

Wisconsin health officials gave the green light Wednesday for vaccinators to start giving shots to minors 12 and older beginning Thursday. The decision followed approvals from the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Vaccinators have been preparing for this approval and some have already started scheduling appointments for the age group. With cases rising among children, health officials said vaccinating this age group could help prevent outbreaks in schools and reduce the spread in surrounding communities.  While children and teenagers may be less likely to develop severe symptoms from COVID-19, they can still transmit the virus and occasionally develop severe cases. The arrival of the more contagious B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant has made young people more vulnerable.
