But now the park authority is hoping to create and 13,000 hectares, the size of 21,000 football pitches, of habitat for plants and animals to thrive.

PLANNING chiefs are studying an application to transform a brownfield site on the edge of a Hampshire town. Cleanslate Ltd is seeking consent to build 21 homes on land described as a former gas works and scrap metal yard at Garfield Road in Bishop s Waltham. The site is not part of the Bishop s Waltham Conservation Area but part of it lies within the South Downs National Park. Cleanslate s application includes a planning statement submitted by Solve. It says: This previously developed site site sits in the heart of a residential area.
