Sewanee, The University of the South, a DIII college located about 50 miles northwest of Chattanooga, Tenn., hosted Emmanuel College in men s lacrosse on Saturday, at which racial slurs were shouted at members of the EC team. Because of pandemic protocols, the only people allowed to attend were student-athletes, coaches, game management staff, and students. Approximately 120 Sewanee students attended. To our great dismay, a few of the Sewanee students hurled the most vile racial epithets (to include the “N-word” and other appalling epithets directed at people of color) toward members of the visiting Emmanuel team.
He went on to write that efforts to identify those responsible were immediately unsuccessful, and that to the few students who are responsible for the epithets shouted yesterday, as I know of no other way to reach you: You have until noon tomorrow, Monday, March 15, to inform the Dean of Students Office that you are responsible. The Stormy Petrel is a mascot made infamous by how recognizably bizarre it is, but the school it represents is home to a burgeoning men’s lacrosse program in Brookhaven, Georgia.
The Oglethorpe University men’s lacrosse team won their first game under new head coach Kyle Morris last Friday by beating Brevard College 10-3. It was also Morris’ first-ever win as a college head coach.
A former midfielder at Division II Shorter University, Morris came to the sport much later than most collegiate players and had a bizarre positional switch as well.
NASHVILLE – Perhaps no one needs the return of an NFL preseason more than Mason Kinsey.
The Tennessee Titans formally announced the addition of the wide receiver prospect to their 2021 roster Thursday via a futures contract. Kinsey posted pictures of himself
Kinsey was one of the more interesting hopefuls on the 2020 roster given that he is
the first player from Berry College, an NCAA Division III institution, to sign an NFL contract. He spent the entire offseason with the Titans and had two stints on the New England Patriots’ practice squad during the regular season.
Among the adjustments the NFL made in 2020 due to the coronavirus was the cancellation of all preseason games. That meant he did not get the opportunity to show how he matched up against NFL-caliber players in more competitive situation than practices.
