Kelly Loftin, an extension entomologist, and professor at the University of Arkansas says the state not only has the right habitats for ticks but an abundance of hosts.  It kind of coincided with an increasing abundance of white-tailed deer, Loftin said. According to the Arkansas Department of Health, ticks cause more diseases in humans than any other insect, but not all ticks bite and transmit to humans.
