I showed up early, Richmond recalled, in line by 7:30 for an 8 a.m. appointment. When the doors opened, she said, she cheered. But when she got to the point where she was to show her school ID, the intake person told her that as a New Jersey teacher, she didn t qualify. She told me there must have been a computer glitch, Richmond said. But she had filled out the online form and included her employer. Plus, she knew other Rocklanders who taught in New Jersey who sailed through their vaccination appointments.
Christopher Richmond had a later appointment. He canceled.
Since then, Lindsay Richmond said, friends who live in New York but teach over state lines have told her they couldn t finish the Am I Eligible form once they were put in their employer information.

Hudson Valley leaders condemn Capitol chaos
Staff reports
As Americans watched violence and chaos consume the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, New Yorkers denounced the mayhem and called for a peaceful transition of power to Joe Biden.
With supporters of President Donald Trump storming the Capitol to stop Biden s confirmation as our next president with four people dying and dozens arrested Hudson Valley residents sounded off on the scene that shocked a nation and struck a nerve at home.
“What I saw today is disrespect for democracy, Westchester County Executive George Latimer told The Journal News/lohud on Wednesday. “That is something that we just frankly haven’t seen in this country before and I think it speaks poorly of the individuals involved and it speaks poorly of those who incite them.
Community prepares for South Nyack Village to dissolve after majority vote

The South Nyack community is preparing for what comes next after a majority of residents voted to dissolve village last week.
South Nyack doesn’t have many of the staples you typically think of in a village. There’s no downtown or commercial shops of any kind.
This means the village solely runs on property taxes. Since the village has financially struggled, property taxes increased by 6.7% last year. On top of that, residents also paid Orangetown taxes since they re a village in the town.
The Nor’easter that hit Rockland Wednesday evening did not deter South Nyack residents from getting to the polls on Thursday, Dec. 17.
In the hope of retaining the village’s distinction as a quaint “rivertown” community, residents overwhelmingly voted “yes” to dissolve the mini-municipality by a margin of 508-292. First established in 1878, the Village of South Nyack will soon be reabsorbed into the Orangetown government.
Both in-person and legal absentee ballots were certified Friday morning, Dec. 18, by the Village of South Nyack Board of Trustees.
The proposal to dissolve the village was originally put forth earlier this year when it was revealed that Nyack College’s 128-acre campus was to be sold to Yeshiva Viznitz of Monsey for $45.5 million. The announcement was soon followed by a proposal from the worldwide Viznitz Orthodox religious organization to put family-style housing on what would become a boys-only campus.
