Still, others worry such a move would turn Asheville s downtown into Bourbon Street.
Mike Rangel, an owner of Asheville Pizza and Brewing and Rabbit Rabbit entertainment venue downtown, laughed as he recalled wandering Bourbon Street decades ago, jug of grocery store wine in hand. I see the attraction, but I also feel like, if not enforced, there s nothing to really stop someone from grabbing a six-pack from Hot Spot and just walking around hanging out, he said.
Rangel said the South Slope would be a likely place for a social district to spring up. The neighborhood, he said, doesn t really need the help.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Department of Transportation Commissioner Hank Gutman Tuesday announced plans to increase last year’s record protected bike lane installation and nearly double last year’s record bus project totals. The administration plans to install 28 miles of new and improved busways and bus lanes in 2021, along with thirty miles of protected bike lanes. Both will be the most installed in one year in New York City history, breaking records set by the administration just last year.

Dozens of miles of New York City streets will be redesigned by year’s end to improve safety for cyclists and speed up commutes for bus riders, Mayor de Blasio announced Tuesday.
Hizzoner said the city is on pace to install 30 new miles of protected bike lanes and five new “busways” or streets where passenger car traffic is restricted before he leaves office at the end of the year. If crews finish the work, it’ll mark the quickest expansion of bus and bike lanes during a calendar year in the city’s history.
