Savages Split With Tigers

The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Marengo Tuesday night for a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader against the Iowa Valley Tigers and came away with a split. The Sigourney girls were a winner by a 38-26 final. The Savages were out of the gates quick, leading 13-4 after one quarter and 27-10 at the half. The two defenses dominated the second half with Iowa Valley outscoring Sigourney 16-11, but the Savages had done enough early to preserve the win. Sigourney was led by Carly Goodwin with 14 points. Kaylee Weber had a monster double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. With the win, the Savages are now 2-0 on the early season. They will meet Belle Plaine on the road Monday. In the nightcap of the double dip, the Sigourney boys were beaten 58-23. The Tigers led 14-7 after the first quarter, 35-10 at half and enacted the continuous clock in the third quarter when they went on a 17-4 run that lasted the entire frame. The Sigourney boys are now 1-2 on the year.

Eagles Trample Trojans in Doubleheader, Girls Pick Up First Win

It was a productive night on Tuesday for the Keota basketball teams, as they welcomed South Iowa Cedar League opponent Tri-County for a doubleheader. The Eagle girls picked up their first victory of the season with an emphatic 44-27 win. They utilized a 16-4 first quarter to take control and the Trojans never threatened to get back in the game. Taylor Kindred recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Bailey Sieren was also in double figures with 10 points and Macie McDonald had four steals. Tri-County shot just 27% from the floor. The Keota boys outscored the Trojans 46-10 in the first and third quarters to have little resistance in a 62-20 blowout win. Carson Sprouse knocked down seven of nine shots to finish with a game-high 18 points and Bryce Greiner tallied 11 points with eight boards. Wyatt Sieren chipped in with 10 points and four blocks.

NM Stays Unbeaten Warhawks Top L-S, 65-55 SULLY – North Mahaska dominated the boards Tuesday as they travelled to Lynnville-Sully for a South Iowa Cedar League basketball contest. The visiting Warhawks yanked down 54 rebounds and hit key free throws in the final minute to secure a 65-55 victory. Even though they missed shots NM was able to grab offensive boards, reset the offense and score. They took early control of the foul-riddled contest (48 foul shots) leading 18-7 after one period and building an 18-point advantage at halftime, 32-14. Each team made a run, but North Mahaska was able to maintain a double-digit advantage as they entered the final frame.
