The Brainerd Fire Department received multiple reports Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 5-6, of gas smells in Brainerd. On Wednesday, calls came at 10:55 a.m. on the 2600 block of Fred Lane, 11:04 a.m. on the 1400 block of South Sixth Street, 11:11 a.m. on the 1000 block of South 10th Street and 11:12 a.m. on the 700 block of South Fifth Street. Firefighters investigated and determined the smell was coming from maintenance work being completed by Xcel Energy near Southeast 28th Street. On Tuesday, calls came in at 1:22 p.m. on the 1800 block of Norwood Street, 1:35 p.m. on the 400 block of North Fifth Street, 1:38 p.m. to the 200 block of South Seventh Street and 2:32 p.m. on the 400 block of West Washington Street. Firefighters investigated and notified the utility company.

Authorities said the robbery happened around 5:45 p.m. at Mozingo Liquors on South Fifth Street. Surveillance pictures show the person pointing a gun right at the man behind the counter. It’s not clear if the robber got away with anything.

Snell, 32, of Williamsport, entered a guilty plea to exceed 55 mph speed limit in other location by 30 mph. • Gavin H. Carroll, 19, of Selinsgrove, entered a guilty plea to exceed 55 mph in other location by 33 mph.
