Twitter spats and smack talk â another week in Seattle politics
Downtown Seattle is front and center in the mayorâs race this week.
Seattle City Council President Lorena González tweeted about her refusal to answer a Downtown Seattle Association candidate questionnaire about how she would approach downtown s recovery.
âI declined to answer because our city cannot afford a mayor who believes that recovery should be focused exclusively on big corporations, González said.
And she wasn t the only one at the center of a political kerfuffle.
The question the DSA asked was pretty benign, bland even, with questions like: âPlease describe the cityâs role in helping downtown recover. What is your recovery plan for downtown, and how would you propose to implement it?â

With three days hitting over 100 degrees in the Seattle area, Jake DeFlitch with the National Weather Service admits âItâs nothing like weâve ever seen.
In fact, the region hasn t felt this intensity of heat in over 100 years, since records were taken at the Seattle Federal Office Building. DeFlitch says that the northwest is likely to experience a warmer-than-average summer. But, he notes that the current extreme event will likely be an anomaly.
âLooking at the long-term forecast, we will continue to see above-normal conditions throughout the summer, he said. Will it will be this hot? Probably not. This is really such an unusual, unique, unprecedented event. We will likely not see something like this again. But it looks like through the summer, we will stay above average when it comes to our temperatures over the next three months.â
