Southern adds week to remote learning | News, Sports, Jobs

Scott Hart SALINEVILLE Students at Southern Local are going to have to wait just a little bit longer to return for in-person classes. The school district, which was the first to go back to remote classes in November, had been planning a return for Tuesday, Jan. 19. However, Superintendent Tom Cunningham said the board felt the case numbers were still too high and they chose to hold off for one more week. Classes are now set to resume on Monday, Jan. 25. Cunningham said with Monday, Jan. 18 a holiday and Friday, Jan. 22 already planned as a Zoom day, the students were only really going to be there three days next week anyway. Southern Local’s board voted on Nov. 19 to go back to online classes after starting the 2020-21 school year in person.

She also was given a 30-day suspended jail sentence. Frank gave her option of paying an additional $200 in lieu of completing her mandated 20-hour community service hours ($10 per hour).

Staff Report EAST LIVERPOOL A Southern Local school board member took a plea deal Tuesday afternoon in city municipal court. Judge Dominic Frank sentenced Patricia Exline, of 10th Street Extension, to pay a $150 fine plus costs on a charge of disorderly conduct, reduced from first-degree misdemeanor theft, and a 30-day suspended jail sentence. Frank gave the option of paying an additional $200 in lieu of completing her mandated 20-hour community service hours ($10 per hour). Exline, who pleaded no contest, also is prohibited from having contact with any other Walmart in Columbiana County under the threat of further additional criminal charges. If she wouldn’t have accepted the fourth-degree misdemeanor, Exline could have been fined $1,000 and spent up to six months in jail. The maximum penalty for disorderly conduct is $250 and 30 days in jail.
