Record-breaking snow blankets WNY and last updated 2020-12-26 16:44:22-05 BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A post-Christmas record-breaking blanket of snow covered Western New York, bringing a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties. Heavy snow and gusty winds making travel extremely difficult and hazardous, with little to no visibility and deep snow on the roads. County crews have been in since Thursday, working around the clock to clear roads. We ve had anywhere from 30 to 45 trucks on the road at any one time. Crews were anticipating it, you know, we were ready for it; we had plenty of supplies on hand and the equipment was ready to go, said Commissioner Bill Geary with Department of Public Works.
