Finances stalling A&B’s transition to metric measurement system

The Director of the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards (ABBS) has identified some of the challenges associated with the country’s transition to the metric system, with financial resources being high on the list.
While the metric system is a legally recognised form of measurement in Antigua and Barbuda, many traders, including vendors and small shop operators, are still using the imperial system.
Under the imperial system, goods are measured in feet, inches, pounds and ounces while the metric system calculates measurements in litres, kilometres and kilogrammes, etc.
Group launches online database for cold cases in A&B; 114 unsolved cases registered to date

Information compiled by an online database, created by a group of Antiguan volunteers, have so far registered over 114 unsolved cases in Antigua and Barbuda, ranging from murders to people who have gone missing without a trace.
The Case files-missing persons and unresolved murders in Antigua and Barbuda Facebook page was created over three weeks ago by a number of individuals who are “dedicated to bringing awareness to missing, unidentified people and unsolved murders throughout the country”.
The directors behind the social media page say they are currently overwhelmed by the information and tips they are receiving from people who have either called or emailed with sensitive information which is passed on the to right people once it is useful.
Gender Affairs launches short series to highlight issues affecting boys and men

Men’s Critical Issues.
The Facebook live series, which will be aired every Thursday throughout the month of May, initially, features influential men in society who are interviewed on key topics such as behaviour, alcohol and drug abuse, fatherhood and education and professional development, among others.
Acting Director of the Gender Affairs Jamie Saunders explained that the programme is designed to highlight issues affecting men and young boys in Antigua and Barbuda.
He said while there are different platforms for women to share common issues, a platform for men was non-existent.
Educators focus on wellness for Teachers Week 2021

“Wellness, relaxation, and having fun,” will be one of the main points of focus for educators who are pausing for the next few days in observance of Teachers Week 2021, which kicked off on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at the Faith Wesleyan Holiness Church in All Saints.
President of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT), Kimdale Mackellar, acknowledged that educators on the island have had their own share of challenges for the past two years, and the union will be trying its best to ensure they are prepared mentally and physical to continue in their different roles.
