In his latest letter Patris corde (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis proclaimed the new liturgical year the “Year of St. Joseph,” one hundred and fifty years after Pope Pius IX declared the saint the Patron of the Universal Church. These two popes, a century and a half apart, invite us to get to know St. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, and to request his accompaniment, seek his guidance, and emulate his courageous and humble obedience.
The main feast of St. Joseph is March 19th, so the month of March is a good time to lean in to this invitation and make an intentional effort, if we haven’t done so already, to begin to acquaint ourselves with the saint, and model his many virtues. Here are some simple, low-labour ways to make space for St. Joseph in your home, your life, and your family, this month:

Across the road from Rome’s
San Paolo alle Tre Fontane (“St. Paul at the Three Fountains”) abbey and church, there is the Grotto of the Three Fountains in Rome, where St. Paul’s head was reputed to have bounced three times when he was beheaded.
It is now a shrine dedicated to the Virgin of Revelation, the site of an apparition which, though not formally approved by the Church, was acknowledged by Pope John Paul II in 1997, when he approved the renaming of the place as “Holy Mary of the Third Millennium at Three Fountains.”
