Skanska believes latest runaway barge was intentionally severed; Coast Guard investigating Annie Blanks, Pensacola News Journal
A Skanska construction barge broke loose late Saturday night and became stuck against private docks near the Pensacola Bay Bridge on the Gulf Breeze side, and the company said Sunday afternoon it believes the line was intentionally severed.
There were no official reports of damage to private property or the bridge, according to both the company and the Florida Department of Transportation. The barge was removed by tugboats Sunday afternoon.
The construction barge became unmoored from its staging area at about 9 p.m. Saturday, said FDOT spokesman Ian Satter. The staging area is about a mile and a half from Gulf Breeze s Baybridge Condominium neighborhood at the foot of the Pensacola Bay Bridge, which was the rogue barge s ultimate landing spot.
