One fire killed 10% of all Sequoia, new group aims to protect the rest

The 2020 Castle fire killed between 10% and 14% of the Giant Sequoias on Earth; a new coalition is trying to save the other 90%. A report, released Monday, found between 7,500 to 10,600 large Giant Sequoias were killed during the fire, which was part of the larger SQF Complex fire. The National Parks Service announced a new coalition, composed of six local, federal and tribal agencies to mitigate a similar event. Fire burns at low intensity in a forest stand. Low to moderate intensity fire is important for the health of giant sequoias and the coniferous ecosystems of the Sierra Nevada. Without it, these ecosystems become overgrown and more vulnerable to tree mortality in drought or catastrophic wildfires.

Company wants to bottle cannabis-infused lemonade in Lemoore The City of Lemoore is negotiating with Flavor Fusion LLC to buy three acres in the city to develop for multiple projects. That includes Flavor Fusion Inc as the the licensed manufacturer of Rayâs Lemonade, a cannabis-infused drink sold in bottles. The lemonade will be manufactured and bottled in the city. Projects may also include: any manufacturing type 1, manufacturing type 2, distribution, micro-business, onsite consumption, testing laboratory, transporter and indoor cultivation Type 1A of pot. A second company, Hold My Beer, LLC also wants to conduct cannabis related business in the city.

Success Fire nears full containment, holds at 800 acres

An 800-acre wildfire burning near Porterville reached 100% containment on Tuesday. The Success Fire was sparked last week following a lightning storm. Roughly 172 firefighters were assigned to the Tulare County incident. Cal Fire reported one injury and no structures damaged. The fire is located near Success Valley and Reservation roads, just east of Porterville. Not far from the Success Fire is the largest active fire in Tulare County. Nettle Fire The Nettle Fire is located on the Tule River Reservation in East Porterville and as of Wednesday was 75% contained, according to National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). Tule River Fire Department is leading the firefighting effort with help from surrounding agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management. The roughly 120 firefighters assigned to the incident made significant progress over the last three days.
