Petronas overseeing safety of contractor s workers in Myanmar Yetaguin oil rig

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 7): Petronas is extending the necessary efforts to ensure the safety of about 155 workers of its contractor on barge to the Yetagun oil rig, located off the coast of Myanmar. Petronas, in a statement here today, reassured it is in close contact with the team and working closely with the contractor in overseeing the well-being of the workers, besides ensuring continuous supply of essentials including food, drinking water and fuel.

The embassy advised all Malaysians in Myanmar to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to adhere to the safety advisories of the local authorities with regards to the ongoing security situation in the country. “A few Malaysians have called the embassy for advice since this morning (yesterday) on the ongoing security situation in Myanmar and the embassy has responded accordingly”, the embassy said in a reply statement to Bernama yesterday night via email.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia views with serious concern the developments in Myanmar where a military coup was reported early Monday, with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi ( pix), President U Win Myint and other senior officials detained in the capital city of Naypyidaw.
