, SYFY WIRE s weekly comics column that gets at the pulse of what s going on in comics right now. We ve got what you need to know about huge crossovers, real-life issues facing the industry, cool first looks, the week s hot new comics, and everything in-between.
We tend to keep the focus pretty tight here at Comics Wire, writing very specifically about comics projects in both short and long form and shying away from a lot of talk about tie-in merchandise and adaptations. But sometimes a group of amazing comics creators gets together to do something great that, while not a comic book, still manages to be an incredible merging of art, story, and meaning, and it s just too cool to pass up.

The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton #1 Review: A Hysterical Examination of One Famous Prick s Terrible Life
Sexcastle,
Assassin Nation,
Rock Candy Mountain already know exactly what sort of story they’ll find in the pages of
The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton. That’s not to say the comic is predictable or iterative; this is the story of a cruel Hollywood action star who’s burned every bridge he’s ever crossed, found dead and the six no-longer-young child stars he burned in life left to investigate his death. It’s a weird comic, to say the least, but in the best possible way. That’s the part which returning fans are bound to recognize: A bizarre premise stuffed with colorful characters, gut busting humor, a deep appreciation of American pop culture, and a surprising degree of depth amidst all the tawdry details. The uninitiated can rest assured they’re in for one heckuva ride here.

In celebration of Pride Month this June, Skybound Entertainment will release a line of nine variant covers featuring art by LGBTQI+ creators. All proceeds from the sales of these Pride Month variant covers will be donated to the
Transgender Law Center, the largest national trans-led organization advocating for a world in which all people are free to define themselves and their futures. Skybound will continue these charity initiatives throughout the year along with additional actions in support of underrepresented and vulnerable communities.
It s been a big year for James Harren and Dave Stewart s Ultramega, the new series that launched in March from Sky
Now I ve learned that
Ultramega #3 has encouraged an incredibly rare feat – outselling its previous issue.
With more copies sold of
Ultramega #3 than issue #2 without any retailer variants or high ratio variant schemes, Ultramega joins a rare class of comics like Robert Kirkman s The Walking Dead or Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans Die – both from Image – that saw sales increases as the series progressed. But unlike those series, each issue of
Ultramega is $7.99, making it even more impressive – and rare – for this kind of sales growth.
