Over the past week, 156 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Marion County.
Two long-term care outbreaks at Accura Healthcare of Knoxville and The Cottages in Pella were considered resolved just before the Christmas holiday, according to the State of Iowa Coronavirus Database. There have been three facilities with significant spread of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
There have been 46 fatalities due to the virus locally since September 1st which was the date of first report, 26 of which have been declared in December.
At least a dozen people have been infected by the coronavirus at Accura HealthCare of Carroll, a long-term care facility for older residents.
There have been a total of 12 confirmed cases at the facility among residents and staff, and two have recovered, according to state data. It s the fourth such outbreak reported in Carroll County.
Six Accura residents have died in the past week, according to recent obituaries, but it s unclear whether any of those residents were infected by the coronavirus. No new deaths from the virus have been reported for the county in the past week, and there is now a significant delay in those reports because they must pass through a federal agency first.
Regional COVID-related deaths rose by seven over the past week while positivity rates remain generally low. Sac County rose by three deaths to 14. They have an increase of 21 cases since this time last Monday at 1,022 with 857 recovered and have a 9.4 percent positivity rate. Crawford County ranks third in the state with a 23.6 percent positivity rate and has had an additional four deaths, now at a total of 21. They are up 64 cases over the past week to 2,071 with 1,762 recovered. In the rest of the region: Calhoun County has the second lowest two-week positivity rate in the state at 6.1 percent. They had nine additional cases over the week up to 1,166 with 1,061 recovered and nine deaths; Carroll is at 15 percent with 2,328 cases, up 65, with 1,977 recovered and 27 deaths; Audubon is at 11 percent with 364 cases, up 21, with 297 recovered and seven deaths. REGIONAL The number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19 in the area continues to decline, with just two new cases reported in Nobles County during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, Jackson and Murray counties each had one new case and Cottonwood, Pipestone and Rock counties had no new cases, according to this morning’s update from the Minnesota Department of Health.
Statewide, another 1,087 Minnesotans tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the 24-hour period.
Another 13 deaths were also recorded during the one-day reporting period. These included six individuals who resided in private residences and seven individuals in long-term care facilities. The cumulative death total from the novel coronavirus in Minnesota now stands at 5,160, including 3,339 residents of long-term care facilities.

REGIONAL Jackson County lost an eighth resident due to complications from COVID-19 during the 48-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Sunday morning s Minnesota Department of Health update. The individual was between the ages of 85-89; no other information is available.
Statewide, 40 more deaths were recorded during the two-day reporting period. These included 13 individuals who resided in private residences and 27 individuals in long-term care facilities. The cumulative death total from the novel coronavirus in Minnesota now stands at 5,147, including 3,332 residents of long-term care facilities.
Meanwhile, another 2,534 Minnesotans tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the 48-hour period. Murray County reported six new cases, Jackson County added five new cases, Cottonwood and Nobles counties each had three new cases, Rock County added two and Pipestone
