Special Criminal Misdemeanor Disposition Docket To Clear Backlog Of Cases Delayed Due To COVID-19
The Tulsa County District Court, with the assistance of the Tulsa County District Attorney’s office, the Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office, the Tulsa County Court Clerk’s office and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a special criminal misdemeanor disposition docket at the Cox Convention Center (“Cox docket”) on January 29, 2021. Representatives from each office will be present during the docket.
This docket will take care of about 400 people whose cases were previously suspended due to the court system taking COVID-19 protocols. The County Court system said in a press release that they have been dealing with the significant backlog for months and now have the ability to efficiently and safely take care of it. They do expect to see every case Friday, but there is a system in place to do so.

People charged with misdemeanors in Tulsa County who have had their cases delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic could soon get their day in court, but not actually in a courtroom.
The county has reached an agreement with ASM Global to have court dates at the Cox Business Convention Center. The first one will be Jan. 29. Initial appearances cases where the defendant is not in custody will be on the dockets. Many of those have been postponed because the courthouse lacks space. So, the advantage of the Cox Center is, is that we have enough room over there where we can socially distance quite a few people. And so, we’ll be running multiple dockets per day, and we think we could probably take care of 300 or 400 or 500 say 300 or 400 each day, said Tulsa County District Court Judge Doug Drummond.
