Cameroon to develop 35k hectares of land for fodder production in Adamaoua The aim is to develop a 35,000 hectares area in Adamaoua, including 30,000 hectares on sites belonging to the Société de développement et d expansion des productions Animales (Sodepa), the  Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR) revealed in  its recent report on public enterprises. According to official sources, in the framework of that project, equipment will be installed in the Faro ranch and in the agropastoral area of Djohong. For the sources, the project will help Sodepa to ensure sustained and diversified meat production for national and sub-regional demands.

Cicam s Garou-based plant resumes operations following President Paul Biya s instructions

(Business in Cameroon) - Unemployed since October 18, 2020, the 350 staff of the factory of the Cotonnière Industrielle du Cameroun (Cicam)’s  Garoua-based plant resumed work on February 2, 2021.  According to credible sources, the plant restarted operations thanks to instructions from the President of the republic for the resumption of Sodecoton’s raw material supplies.   Specifically, the sources indicate, Sodecoton will deliver 75 tons of cotton to Cicam’s plant in Garoua. With that supply, the plant will run production for at least two months, they add. Indeed, Sodecoton stopped supplying Cicam because of the debt accumulated by the latter. Estimated at XAF600 million in early 2020, the outstanding supplier debt owed by CICAM to Sodecotton rose to XAF1.3 billion in October 2020 (ed. note: a partial payment of XAF200 million was made in the meantime).

T he implementation of the Municipal Cities Construction Program (PCCM), in whose framework a XAF10 billion credit line was executed, is ongoing in partnership with Feicom. A new credit line of XAF15 billion has been requested, the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR) revealed in the report it published in late 2020 on public companies’ 2019 performance. Indeed, in July 2020, thanks to the partnership between the CFC and Feicom (the administration in charge of local development) and the assistance of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC), a XAF10 billion credit line was opened to help 24 municipalities build 594 housing units in their communities.  

NSE, IFC to Host CEO Roundtable on Gender Equality

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will host a workshop to promote gender equality among listed companies on Tuesday, 2 February 2021. The virtual event will bring together Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and C-Suite Executives of NSE 30 Index Companies to a roundtable discussion to highlight outcomes of a recently conducted survey, “Gender Implications of COVID-19 on Private Sector Companies” under the Nigeria2Equal Programme. In addition to the roundtable discussion to be facilitated by the CEO, NSE, Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, the event will also feature a keynote address from His Highness Mohammad Sanusi II, United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate; a presentation from the Country Director, IFC Nigeria, Ms. Eme Essien Lore; and a fireside chat with two of the participating CEOs on what the private sector can do to promote gender equality.
