(Artie Raslich/Nassau County) Though Winter Storm Gail was predicted to be the biggest storm of the season, she didn t roll out her winds and snow quite as expected in Nassau County, but the nor easter did leave her mark across the region. The snow and slush left in her wake was enough to contribute to hazardous road conditions car crashes and snarled traffic prompting County Executive Laura Curran to urge residents to stay indoors and enjoy their snow day, sort of.

Senate passes slew of bills, nominations

The approval of controversial permits for the Summer’s End marina project in Coral Bay, removal of the King Christian statue from Emancipation Garden, a bill to provide beach access ramps for persons with disabilities, and ID cards for Indigenous Virgin Islanders were among dozens of measures passed during Friday’s legislative session. Summer’s End The marina project has generated both support and condemnation over the years, and Sen. Myron Jackson unsuccessfully introduced an amendment in the nature of a substitute bill, before senators voted to approve the measure as originally proposed. Bill No. 33-0428 is “an Act ratifying the Major Coastal Zone Permits” for the marina project and a letter from Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. to managing member Chaliese Summers dated Dec. 18, modifying the consolidated permits.

Public Works/Fleet Division Employee Diagnosed With COVID-19 – WBIW

 December 12, 2020 (BLOOMINGTON) – On Friday, December 11, an employee of the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Fleet Division received a positive result of a COVID-19 viral test administered on Tuesday, December 8. The DPW employee is the first within that division to have had a positive test result.  Having first experienced symptoms on Saturday, November 28, the employee has been on paid leave since Monday, November 30.  No close contacts among co-workers or the general public were identified.  Close contact is defined by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset–or, for asymptomatic clients, two days prior to positive specimen collection–until the time the patient is isolated.) Cleaning protocols of equipment, facilities, and vehicles the employee used have been completed.
