RECFISHWEST is encouraging fishers to have their say on the proposed Buccaneer Archipelago marine parks before the public comment period ends, after the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) recently extended the deadline to 11 June to allow more time for the preparation of submissions.
To assist fishers develop their submission, Recfishwest says it has produced two easy-to-follow sets of guidelines – one providing general hints and tips around making your submission count and the other a step-by-step guide for those who want to make their submissions through DBCA’s online survey.
Contract awarded to BGC Construction’s Bunbury-based regional team, creating about 50 jobs
Mangrove Cove playground construction to start in June
Western Australian company BGC Construction Pty Ltd has been awarded a tender to deliver construction works at Mangrove Cove in Bunbury.
The project will include construction of an accessible nature-play focused playground with an emphasis on the local mangrove area, a new accessible toilet block and further site landscaping.
The developments at Mangrove Cove will complement existing facilities, including the iconic lookout tower and environmental education pavilion.
The project will require a workforce of about 50 people and BGC expects that 75 per cent of the contract value will be spent within the region, with the major components of work being completed by Bunbury-based contractors.

As firefighters continue to monitor the slopes of Table Mountain for flare-ups and to fight the pockets of fire that are still actively burning, a lot of questions are being asked about what could and should have been done to prevent the blaze.
While thankfully no lives were lost, and injuries were limited to a handful of firefighters, there has been a catastrophic loss in terms of cultural and academic heritage. Not to mention the massive trauma to students who had to be evacuated and those who had to flee their homes on the fireline yesterday.
