St Regis Mohawk Tribe files in court to close unlicensed pot shops

Friday, July 2, 2021 - 5:46 pm AKWESASNE Three days after adopting its Adult Use Cannabis Ordinance, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe filed civil actions in Tribal Court naming seven cannabis dispensaries that have illegally opened to sell recreational marijuana without being licensed or regulated from the Tribe. The seven named dispensaries located under the Tribe’s jurisdiction are: “Smoke Show Dispensary” located on 2761 State Route 95; “Bud Ease Dispensary” located at 16 McGee Road; “Good Leaf Dispensary” (property with no street address) located on State Route 37; “Sasta Budz Dispensary” at 220 State Route 37; “Native Flower Dispensary” located at 640 State Route 37; “Golden Nugget Dispensary” located at 42 Herne Road; and “Best Budz Dispensary” located at 775 State Route 37. The Tribe’s complaints allege that the dispensaries are in violation of tribal law by operating without a Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal License.

One reported active case of COVID remains in Akwesasne

Thursday, May 27, 2021 - 6:05 am AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center reports zero new cases of COVID-19, leaving one active case in the southern portion of Akwesasne. There are three residents in quarantine. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer Vaccine for adolescents 12 through 15 years of age. Given this development, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is asking interested parents to sign up their child by calling 518-333-0230. Leave your name and good telephone number for a healthcare worker to call you back. Please keep in mind that a parent must be present for the appointment.

Tribe removes travel-related quarantine requirement, increases outdoor gathering size

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center has announced the elimination of travel-related quarantine requirements and an increase in the allowable numbers for outdoor gatherings. As of May 21, tribal members and employees will no longer be required to quarantine based solely on their travel beyond the established 300-mile radius. The travel radius is now eliminated and asymptomatic individuals are no longer required to quarantine. Only symptomatic individuals are required to quarantine and get a COVID-19 test no sooner than seven days after symptoms develop. Additionally, the EOC has increased the allowable crowd size from 25 to 50 people for outdoor gatherings.
