In celebration of Black History Month, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) will welcome Sharon Harley, Ph.D., SMWC class of 1970 to present “Black History through the Lens of African American Women and the Women’s Suffrage Movement.”
Her presentation focuses on the vibrant history featuring the perspectives and stories of African American women to show how they have been instrumental in shaping the country. The event will be Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Jones had plenty she loved in life: cooking, playing bingo, karaoke and watching Colts football with her husband, Paul.
She was witty. She was caring. She was selfless, according to her obituary. But above all, she was strong.
Her family saw her at her weakest point, afflicted by the novel coronavirus and forced to be on a ventilator in a hospital intensive care unit.
She was on the ventilator 41 days, off the vent for 10 days, but then back on the breathing machine before she died, her daughter, Lori Anthony, said.
She just missed – by less than two weeks – celebrating her 72nd birthday.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) Indiana Landmarks has awarded more than $215,000 to help nonprofits and cities around Indiana save meaningful places, with $6,500 going to Wabash Valley concerns. Drawing from a variety of funds, these grants support efforts ranging from architectural assessments and repairs of historic houses to workshops and summer programs for youth.
“Indiana Landmarks offers grants to help get the ball rolling on preservation projects and help spark community revitalization around the state,” says Marsh Davis, president of Indiana Landmarks. “We’re extremely grateful, especially in these challenging times, that we’re able to continue to offer this crucial support to local preservation groups.”
