Libyan prime minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba received a high-level Turkish delegation in Tripoli yesterday that included Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar, and Intelligence Chief Mr. Hakan Fidan, in the presence of the Chief of Staff Mohamed Al-Haddad, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najla Mangoush.
The government reported that the meeting discussed strengthening relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in the interest of the Libyan and Turkish peoples.

During a joint press conference later between Foreign Minister Mangoush and her Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, Mangoush praised Turkey’s support for the health sector in Libya in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, and stressed the establishment of distinguished relations with Turkey in the interest of both countries.

Talks scheduled for this week could open the door to closer relations, and help end a battle for control in Libya, where Egypt and Turkey have backed opposing forces.
Erdogan’s ruling AKP party recently proposed a parliamentary friendship group with Egypt. But Erdogan finds himself increasingly isolated and facing a severe economic crisis at home. The already weak Turkish Lira approached an all-time low versus the US dollar last week, after President Joe Biden officially recognized the Armenian genocide.
