Davidsmeyer seeks FOID change

Davidsmeyer seeks FOID change FacebookTwitterEmail Davidsmeyer SPRINGFIELD Illinois gun owners are being treated as second class citizens because of a massive backlog for first time applications and renewals of Firearm Owners Identification cards (FOID), Assistant Republican Leader C.D. Davidsmeyer, R-Jacksonville, said Friday. “My mother-in-law lives in Ohio and can purchase ammunition in Illinois without a FOID card,” he said. “However, people in my district whose FOID has not been renewed by the Illinois State Police cannot buy ammunition.” Davidsmeyer stated many local stores are unwilling to sell ammunition to people who have expired FOID cards. “My office receives constant complaints from constituents who try to buy ammo at their local farm store,” he said. “These stores do not want to take on the liability of gun and ammo sales while a person’s FOID card is technically expired.

Illinois Judge Rules FOID Card Is Unconstitutional

Illinois Judge Rules FOID Card Is Unconstitutional Quite frankly, not a minute too soon. I ve railed for years (not just me, but many people) about the Illinois FOID card, and the fact that by its very existence, you re paying to exercise a right guaranteed to you in the United States Constitution via the 2nd Amendment. You don t have to pay a fee to speak your mind because of the 1st Amendment, so why do you have to when exercising your 2nd Amendment rights? Just for clarification, the FOID card is not a license to carry a concealed weapon (that would be a CCL, or Concealed Carry License). In Illinois, you have to go through state-mandated training before submitting your application for a CCL, which, if approved, gives you the legal right to carry your weapon.
