SINN FEIN TD APOLOGISES OVER HOMPHOBIC REMARK
Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley has admitted a Tweet he sent about Leo Varadkar’s sexuality was open to interpretation and has apologised to the Dáil.
Deputy Stanley said homophobia is abhorrent and that he tried to contact the Tánaiste today to apologise for the poorly-worded post.
Brian Stanley also apologised for a tweet about two ambushes that killed British soldiers saying we need to be able to talk sensitively about the past.
Deputy Stanley said he hopes people will accept the apologies

Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley has admitted a Tweet he sent about Leo Varadkar s sexuality was open to interpretation and has apologised to the Dáil.

The Laois Offaly TD said he will continue to contact Leo Varadkar again in order to issue an apology.
He told the Dail Homophobia is abhorrent to me and I absolutely deplore prejudice of any kind, and always have .
Fine Gael TD Colm Burke has claimed that tweets sent out by members of Sinn Féin “have been very carefully crafted”.
Speaking this morning ahead of Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley’s statement to the Dáil over controversial remarks he made, Deputy Burke said he had a problem with some of the “messages” being issued by Stanley’s party.
Deputy Burke, who is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of which Stanley is the chair, told Newstalk Breakfast there needs to be an apology in the Dáil chamber. I was in the Public Accounts Committee and I requested that he would make a statement in the Dáil. because I believe the Dáil was the appropriate place for him to make that statement, he said.

Laois Offaly Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley was making no further comment ahead of his personal statement to the Dáil this week but a close ally of his believes there has been a witchhunt and he should not resign.
Cllr Aidan Mullins is Sinn Féin s Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District representative on Laois County Council.
“My personal feeling is that he should not resign as the chairman of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee.
