Deputy Sherlock said: “Every person living in rural Ireland will be horrified by the news this morning that Bank of Ireland is pulling out of our communities. This is akin to ripping the commercial heart out of Provincial Ireland. These branches provide a focal point not just for everyday banking but wider community itself.

Former Mallow Park Hotel cited in Dáil debate over derelict sites

The long-running saga over the future of the former Central Hotel building in Mallow has been cited in the Dáil as a prime example of why urgent changes are needed to the 1990 Derelict Sites act. The issue was raised on the floor of the house by Cork East Labour TD Seán Sherlock, in a motion calling for the act to be amended to give local authorities power to claim back expenses incurred in making buildings that have been empty for long periods of time safe. It called for the introduction of a Bill amending the 1990 Act to give security to local authorities, by way of creating a charge on the land concerned, in relation to the expenses incurred by the local authority in order to give effect to measures which the local authority considers to be necessary in order to prevent the land from becoming, or continuing to be, a derelict site .

Calls for Minister to investigate scouting expulsions

Scouting Ireland members expelled over misconduct Updated / Tuesday, 9 Feb 2021 18:16 Social Affairs & Religion Correspondent The Board of Scouting Ireland has written to its members informing them of the expulsion of a number of individuals from the association.  They include Chief Scout Christy McCann, Chief Commissioner David Shalloo and former board member Ollie Kehoe.  In those cases, the board says it found evidence of misconduct under Scouting Ireland s disciplinary process and that they have been expelled from membership of the association.  The email says the board also found evidence of misconduct in relation to a fourth member, Therese Bermingham.  The correspondence states that Ms Bermingham is limited to working within her local group as a Programme Scouter and may not hold any position in the organisation outside of that group for the period of two years.
