33 cats rescued from Monroe home after mail carrier notices some on roof Friends of Companion Animals helps rescue cats from home Published:  Tags:  MONROE, Mich. – Officials rescued 33 cats from what appeared to be an abandoned home in Monroe after a mail carrier noticed some of them on the roof. Penny Bly, the shelter director of Friends of Companion Animals, said a mail carrier called Monroe County Animal Control after seeing cats on the roof of the home. “Animal control instructed the mail carrier to contact us and after coordinating with MCAC regarding who will take the lead in this endeavor, FOCA volunteers jumped into action and secured the first initial batch of cats, which included seven felines,” Bly said.

This year, MDARD will distribute $137,144 to 24 registered animal shelters throughout the state to support various animal welfare projects. The Animal Welfare Fund is supported by generous Michiganders during tax season when they check the fund’s box on Form 4642, Voluntary Contributions Schedule on their state tax returns. New tree policy not supported Councillor Kennedy requested that Council develop a policy to remove sick and dying trees, outline the cost of their removal and replacement, and that Council consider outsourcing the work to contractors. Council’s Acting General Manager clarified that Council is already in the process of replacing dying trees. Councillors voted to defer the formation of any further policies until Council’s Tree Management Plan is completed in April. Water restrictions considered Councillor Kennedy requested that Council write to Essential Water and ministers asking why the city was on water restrictions. The motion was supported despite water restrictions already being lifted yesterday.
