South Sudan President dissolves Parliament as part of peace accord Updated: Updated: The new legislative body will have lawmakers from opposing sides Share Article The new legislative body will have lawmakers from opposing sides South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dissolved Parliament, opening the way for lawmakers from opposing sides of the country’s civil war to be appointed under a 2018 peace accord. Mr. Kiir’s decision was announced on public television on Saturday evening but no date was given as to when the new Parliament will begin working. The setting up of a new legislative body was part of an accord signed in September 2018 between Mr. Kiir and Vice-President Riek Machar, for years on opposition sides during the five-year civil war that left 3,80,000 people dead and four million displaced.

Discharged ex-SSPDF Gen. Stephen Buay joins Gen. Malong’s SSUF General Stephen Buay Rolnyang, who was in August 2019 stripped of his rank and discharged from the South Sudan People s Defense Forces (SSPDF), on Monday declared that he had joined Gen. Paul Malong’s South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A). The litany of reasons he gave for joining SSUF ranged from an attack on a cattle camp in his village to the usurpation of power in Juba by the Sudanese National Congress Party (NCP), poor welfare of SSPDF soldiers, tribalism, and corruption among others.  “This is to inform all the people of South Sudan that today on 3/5/2021, I have joined the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) under the leadership of General Paul Malong Awan,” Gen. Buoy wrote in a press release.

Uganda Police probe suspected assassination of South Sudanese general The Uganda Police are investigating the death of the former Deputy Governor of Yei River State in South Sudan as a suspected assassination, the Ugandan Monitor newspaper reported yesterday. The South Sudan National Movement for Change/Army (SSNMC/A) Chief of General Staff Brig. Gen. Abraham Wani Yoane Bondo was stabbed at his rented home in Nansana, Wakiso District, last Tuesday, and died in hospital two days later.    Investigations indicate that Brig. Gen. Wani’s killers, who raided his home in the night, were heard by neighbors speaking Arabic.  Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said political motive is part of the line of investigation they are studying.
