14th March 2021 - Richard Bruton TD
The sustainability of borrowing and debt levels will soon become the biggest looming question we face in seeking to shape a post-Covid world, the Fine Gael PP Chairman Richard Bruton has said.
Deputy Bruton, a Dublin Bay North TD, said he welcomed the useful analysis provided by the Parliamentary Budget Office published this weekend on the sustainability of the accumulating debts which we will have as we emerge from the Covid crisis.
Deputy Bruton said: “The mathematical models put forward by the Parliamentary Budget Office shed little light on the policies we shall need.

Opposition claims that a State scheme to assist home ownership will result in a price spiral are false, completely exaggerated and ill founded, the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Chairman has said.
Deputy Richard Bruton said the shared equity scheme, which involves the State investing in the cost of new houses, will move demand in the housing market and will bring a welcome shift in the supply mix to starter homes.
The Dublin TD also said it was strangely ironic that Sinn Fein are expressing concern about supply when they have consistently blocked mixed development on council lands and rezonings – intended to release new supply.

3rd February 2021 - Richard Bruton TD
A new wave of ambition is needed in tackling energy poverty, according to the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Chair, Richard Bruton TD.
Deputy Bruton said “Retrofitting and upgrades to home heating must be targeted at the private rental sector and an area-based model must be rolled out if we are to see further improvements for low income families.
“The Government has made great strides in reducing energy poverty but we are not there yet. While energy poverty has halved over the last 3 years, and that is good progress, now is the time to be more ambitious.
