It’s claimed so-called cuckoo funds will begin setting their sights on properties in regional cities and towns, including some in Kerry.
That’s according to Sinn Féin’s housing spokesperson Eoin O’Broin, who was speaking as senior government ministers consider how to prevent investment funds from bulk buying in new housing estates.
Later today, Sinn Féin will bring a motion before the Dáil calling for all tax breaks given to these international investors to be scrapped.

Deputy O’Broin claims institutional investors have huge, unfair advantages over private buyers, such as having to pay low stamp duty rates and avoiding dividend-withholding tax in cases.

There are calls for a coordinated taskforce to be established following the recent fire that devastated parts of Killarney National Park.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says lessons must be learned from this incident.
Deputy Pa Daly is urging the Minister of State for Heritage Malcolm Noonan to talk to Kerry County Council about creating this taskforce to deal with fires within the National Park.
A Kerry TD is warning constituents of a social media scam.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says a person in the county received messages through Facebook, advising them they’d been granted up to €50,000.
The scam requires the participant to first pay a considerable amount to release the money.
Deputy Daly, who has shared information about the scam with gardaí, is reminding constituents to be extremely cautious when engaging with people whom they don’t know.
