A Columbus, Ohio police officer who fatally shot a Black man on Tuesday was suspended from duty, the city’s mayor announced less than three weeks after another fatal police shooting of a Black man there.
The 47-year-old man killed on Tuesday, whose name has not been revealed, was shot by the officer, who was responding to a non-emergency call about a noise complaint.
When police arrived, they saw an open garage door and a man inside, who approached the police with a mobile phone in his hand, according to a statement posted on Twitter by Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther.

An Ohio police officer has been placed on temporary leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the fatal shooting of an unarmed Black man in the city of Columbus earlier this week.
Mayor Andrew Ginther during a press conference on Tuesday revealed that the unidentified officer failed to turn on his body camera before discharging his firearm during a confrontation earlier in the morning. Police were responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the Cranbrook neighborhood after a resident voiced concern about a person, who had been seated inside an SUV for an extended period of time.

Body camera footage shows a Columbus police officer fatally shooting 47-year-old Andre Maurice Hill less than 10 seconds after finding him in a garage early Tuesday. The officer who shot him is Adam Coy, a 19-year veteran of the department who has since been placed on paid administrative leave.
Columbus police released records and video of the encounter Wednesday, along with Coy’s personnel file and discipline records. Coy is white; Hill was Black. Police say no weapon was found at the scene.
