Former senior U.S. officials, including former U.S. Senator Chris Dodd and former Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, are visiting Taipei in a trip to signal Biden s commitment to Taiwan and its democracy. Tsai told the U.S. delegation in a meeting at the Presidential Office that Chinese military activities in the region have threatened regional peace and stability.

The Maritime Security Administration of China published a statement on its website Wednesday in which it prohibited any vessel from entering the designated area, where tests with live ammunition will be carried out. According to the source, the maneuvers will be carried out between 08:00 and 18:00 local time (00:00 and 10:00 GMT) every day between Apr. 15 and Apr. 20, in the Nanpeng archipelago, belonging to the southeast Chinese province of Canton in the Taiwan Strait.

These actions alter the status quo in the Indo-Pacific and threaten regional peace and stability,” Tsai said at the Presidential Office to welcome a visiting U.S. delegation, before the two sides held closed-door talks. The delegation was headed by former U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) who arrived in Taiwan on April 14. The former senator was accompanied by former Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, as well as Dan Biers, director of the Office of Taiwan Coordination at the State Department.
