This position can be located in Atlanta, GA or New Orleans, LA.
The SPLC seeks an experienced advocate to lead its Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative (SIFI), a cutting-edge program combining direct services and impact advocacy tools to advocate for the decarceration of people in immigration custody in the Deep South.
The SIFI Director is responsible for the vision, strategic planning, leadership, and management of a team of more than 20 advocates across five offices Georgia and Louisiana. This includes supporting office-specific release strategies and campaigns; nurturing relationships with grassroots groups, legal services providers, and other key partners; building public support for mass decarceration through effective communications strategies; and addressing operational issues. The SIFI Director will also model SPLC’s values of an inclusive, anti-racist and respectful workplace and will encourage the same from staff.

President-elect Joe Biden announced Jan. 7, 2021, the nomination of an Indian-American civil rights leader to the third highest position in the Justice Department.
Vanita Gupta, who has been the president and CEO of The Leadership Conference of Civil and Human Rights, the largest civil rights organization in the country, was nominated by Biden as Associate Attorney General in the Justice Department.
Biden announced his nominees for the top four posts in the Justice Department, Judge Merrick Garland as Attorney General, Lisa Monaco for Deputy Attorney General, Gupta for Associate AG, and Kristen Clarke as Assistant AG for the Civil Rights Division, the last being a position that Gupta held during the Obama administration.
