A PROJECT to transform a collection of cottages on the Longleat Estate near Warminster into luxury retreats has revealed their fascinating history. A total of six properties, many dating back to the 18th century, are being turned into exclusive rural escapes with the first three set to be available for bookings from April. As part of the renovation project, a team of archivists have researched the heritage of each of the properties and uncovered their intriguing history and the lives of the people who lived in them over the centuries. Jon Timney, director of estate, said: “As well as offering luxurious accommodation in a stunning setting, we also wanted to explore and reflect each of the properties’ unique story.

Students compete in state oratorical contest held in Shelby

Shelby American Legion Post 82 Family hosted the 83rd annual State Oratorical Finals competition at the LeGrand Center Sunday.
Four contestants, all winners from their particular regions throughout the state, included Savannah McGlothlin, a sophomore at Burns High, participated. She advanced through local, district, and division competitions to the state finals. The title of Savannah s oration was What Compromise Means to the Constitution.
At Sunday s contest, she was awarded second place, along with a $2,500 scholarship. Other contestants included Emma Hall, who represented Apex American Legion Post 124. Emma took first place in the contest and received a $7,500 scholarship.
