Walpole Island First Nation announced on Jan. 5 that the community is up to two active COVID-19 cases after it went about a month with none.
A positive case identified on New Year’s Eve was the first since the community recorded no cases on Nov. 30.

And the First Nation said it was still at two active cases in a Jan. 6 update.
James Jenkins, Walpole Island’s director of operations, said they were able to trace the active cases and found they were infected “through close contacts that had been exposed elsewhere.”

Twisting the keys in her hands, Lennox Island First Nation member Lisa Legere examines the empty room as she explores the brand new one-bedroom house. Safe, she said. I m home.
Legere said she only found out about being chosen for the new home a few months ago, and had recently been staying in shelters. Certainly a dream come true, like, I couldn t ask for anything else, Legere said. It s amazing what my band has done for me considering where I was.
