President Weah Extends Electricity to Peace Island as He Commissions âLight Up Monroviaâ Project

(Monrovia, Liberia):Drives by the President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, to spread electricity to every nook and corner of the country have found yet another concrete expression in his commissioning of the “Light Up Monrovia” Project and by switching on the Peace Island Community Light in Congo Town. Peace Island Community is one of Monrovia’s large slums and long-marginalized communities existing without electric power for decades, reason why throngs of its residents burst into thunderous celebrations as the President, along with the European Union Head of Delegation, Ambassador Laurent Delahousse, switched on hundreds of homes in the community on March 5, 2021.
âAfter almost a year since the beginning of the pandemic, West Island Community Shares is recognizing local West Island businesses and their employees who went above and beyond in their fight against COVID- 19,â said Albena Petkova.
The West Island Community Sharesâ (WICS) Development & Communications Manager was discussing the non-profit agencyâs honouring of area merchants and businesses who stepped up during these trying times.
âMany local businesses and their employees have played an important role in the fight against the virus, and often did so behind the scene,â said Petkova.
Due to COVID 19, WICS was unable to hold its major fundraiser â the Red & White dinner and wine tasting event. âThis year, although we couldnât host our biggest annual fundraiser due to the sanitary restrictions, we didnât want to miss the chance to highlight local companies and their employees who have taken a leading role in the battle against COVID-1
