GMC has released more information on the new, pure-electric Hummer SUV. The reborn off-roader will go on sale in 2024, sporting similar electric technology and the same rugged styling cues as its pick-up sibling.
The electric Hummer SUV will give GMC another offering in what’s steadily becoming a well-populated marketplace of plus-sized American EVs. Contenders already slated for launch include the Rivian R1S, the Tesla Cybertruck and the Bollinger B1.
It’s based on a shortened version of the Hummer pick-up’s dedicated electric platform, which uses the battery as a load-bearing member of the chassis. The result, GMC says, is a well-protected battery pack and a body rigid enough to handle hardcore off-roading, despite the fact the shell features an open targa-style top, rather than a fixed roof.

Macho, Iconic Styling
It s been over a decade since the Hummer name graced the front of a new SUV, but the macho styling seems to integrate well with a modern design aesthetic. The iconic Hummer grille has been modernized for a new decade and now features an integrated headlight bar. Other signature Hummer touches include H2 hommage wheels, optional tow hooks, a square body shape, and a mounted spare tire in the back. GMC even added new features such as the Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels and I-Bar.
The Edition 1 debuts a new GMC color called Moonshot Green Matte. This matte hue will later be available on other SUV trims and the EV Pickup.

April 6 (UPI) General Motors said Tuesday it will produce new Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup truck and recently revealed GMC Hummer EV SUV at its assembly plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Mich.
The new electric vehicles will be built at the company s Factory Zero assembly plant under renovation in Detroit and Hamtramck, the company said in a statement. The company announced it was investing $2.2 billion in the Detriot-Hamtramck assembly plant last year to produce all-electric trucks and SUVs. The name Factory Zero reflects the company s goal to produce vehicles with zero emissions.
