TUSCALOOSA, AL. Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue (TFR) will be better equipped to save lives going into the new year as it implements the latest in new advanced life support technology in its vehicles. The city hopes the new equipment will provide another valuable tool to its first responders, as many firefighters are paramedics and capable of on-scene treatment.

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Shows Off New Life-Saving Equipment
Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue and Mayor Walt Maddox revealed a line of new Advanced Life Support Equipment for the city s fire engines and ladder trucks at a joint press conference Monday afternoon.
Chief Randy Smith said TFR has worked closely with the city over the past year to acquire various grants to afford this new equipment and increase the department s ability to properly serve the citizens of Tuscaloosa. This is historic, and it s very exciting for the City of Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue, said Smith said. There have been countless times throughout my career and other medics careers where we showed up on a scene, and I thought If only we had some Advanced Life Saving equipment.

SHELTON The Shelton Fire Department has received a $60,729 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D- Conn., announced last week.
The grant will ensure that the Shelton Fire Department has the training and resources needed to provide life-saving services. Shelton’s share was part of $722,654 in grant money also awarded to Bridgeport, Fairfield and Oxford fire departments.
“The personal protective equipment provided by the AFG-S award will help to ensure that our 256 volunteer firefighters of the Shelton Fire Department will continue to be well protected as we adapt to all challenges placed upon America’s first responders,” Shelton Fire Chief Francis T. Jones III said.
