WCG calls for patience after criticism of Malvern Hills College closure

COLLEGE: Harriett Baldwin has written to Angela Joyce over the Malvern Hills College closure THE group in charge of Malvern Hills College has hit back after a number of local figures criticised them for the way they have handled closing the site. A WCG spokesman responded after West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin urged them to accept a “formal offer” from Worcestershire Community Foundation. They said: “We received an unexpected email from the Worcestershire Community Foundation on February, 12 2021 in which it expressed interest in purchasing the Malvern Hills College site. In the communication it indicated that there is, of course, the need to carry out necessary due diligence and regulatory requirements as part of any formal offer process.

Controversial work begins on 50 new homes at former BMX track in Malvern

BUILDING work on 50 new homes in Malvern is underway. The ground at the North End Lane site was broken by Lovell Midlands and Platform Housing Group, and will see a selection of one, two, three and four bedroom homes built. Of these, 14 will be for affordable rent , 14 for social rent and 22 for shared ownership. The site, a former BMX track, was given the green light by planners in January last year, though there were objections from a number of residents and local groups who felt it was inappropriate. One of these, from Malvern Town Council, said the planned access road was ‘unsuitable’ and the increase in cars in an already built up area would be unacceptable.

Plans for 33 homes on former QinetiQ site in Malvern backed by council

PLANS to build 33 new homes at the former QinetiQ site in Malvern have been approved. Plans for the site went before Malvern Hills District Council’s Southern Area Planning Committee on December 16 and were given the green-light by councillors, though concerns were raised over road safety near the site. Malvern Town Council objected the plans over the density of the housing, having seen the site increase from 28 to 33 houses since outline approval was first granted in 2010. Concerns were also raised about the site being on a dangerous bend and whether a pedestrian footpath nearby would be closed during the work.
