The Peninsula Manila celebrates Women’s Month
IT’S MARCH Women’s Month an important time to highlight the historical and present-day accomplishments of women. We celebrate female “firsts” in various fields and rightly so. But for too long, March as Women’s Month has been spent comparing women’s professional success with that of men’s. We are told to honor women’s advancement in their careers, but overlook the unpaid work that mothers have done for centuries. Honoring motherhood has been relegated to one day in May when we celebrate Mother’s Day, undermining the idea that mothering is important work that has contributed to society. Women can “work” and women can “mother” without feeling like they have to choose which identity is more important. In fact, a report by Oxfam in January 2020 calculated that women globally would have made $10.8 trillion dollars in 2019 if they earned minimum wage for their unpaid work that includes routine housework,

Spiral celebrates Japanese Spring Festival
SOFITEL Philippine Plaza’s Spiral welcomes the bloom of Spring in the Land of the Rising Sun with a series of gastronomic engagements that will immerse connoisseurs in the rich history and traditions of Japanese cuisine. Throughout March, Spiral features Japanese master chef Masahiro Mizumoto as he prepares bespoke menus for an exclusive sake dinner, sake and cheese masterclass, and Japanese cooking class. Mr. Mizumoto brings more than 35 years of culinary experience which he gained from working in Japanese fine dining restaurants in his hometown Fukuoka. Now Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila’s resident Japanese master artisan, he heads Spiral’s Japanese atelier and curates the Japanese menu for hotel banquets and events. Courtesy: Nuwa Manila City of Dreams Despite the ongoing pandemic, Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards pushed through with this year s edition, and much like last year, 15 Philippine properties were recognized in this year’s Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards. Of the 15 Philippine properties, six were given the highest rating of five stars, with Marco Polo Ortigas and Sky Tower at Solaire Resort & Casino receiving the five-star rating for the fifth year in a row.
