Ayrshire seaside: Why our towns and villages deserve more credit

Which? recently released a list of nearly 100 seaside town and villages that people voted for as the best in the UK based on the beach, attractions, scenery, value for money, and other factors. Inexcusably, no Ayrshire places featured on the list, with areas in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, and many more finding a spot. The top place in Scotland went to St Andrews. A fair choice, but there s no reason why our stunning seaside places in Ayrshire shouldn t feature on the list. Here s why we think our Ayrshire seaside town and villages are the best in the world. Letter from America: Abraham Lincoln and his love for Robert Burns and Scotland

Lincoln who never left the United States for any foreign journey, often contemplated Scotland and spoke of his goal of travelling there. At the end of the Civil War, Lincoln said to his personal secretary Jo

Queen visits Ayrshire: 65 years on

Almost 65 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh spent a morning in Ayrshire during their visit to Scotland. On Tuesday July 3 1956, the royal couple spent time visiting towns, with crowds of locals lining the streets along the way. The pair arrived at Ardrossan Town Station at 10am, greeted by a reception party which included Provost of Ardrossan John Hogarth, Chief Constable of Ayrshire Robert Adamson, and the Rt Hon Lord Strathclyde. The station was transformed especially for the occasion, with flowers and decorations displayed to welcome Her Majesty. The building was embellished with flowers and plant pots on a backdrop of decorative trellis work.
