Reward Offered in Littleton Covered Bridge Arson Investigation
Maine Fire Marshal s Office
The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office has announced a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in connection with a fire that destroyed the Watson Settlement Bridge in Littleton.
The covered bridge on the Framingham Road was built in 1911 and spans the Meduxnekeag River. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the fire that destroyed the landmark on Monday, July 19.
Anyone with any information that may be helpful in the investigation is asked to call the Office of State Fire Marshal at 1-888-870-6162.
Virginia Village Redevelopment Plans Head to Planning Commission
Virginia Village owner Brian Cullen is well aware that his proposed redevelopment of the shopping center off Catoctin Circle and South King Street is a pioneering project of sorts to test out the Crescent Design District regulations.
“What we’re trying to demonstrate is how [the regulations] can be used,” he said. “There hasn’t been a case done yet to use the Crescent District the way it was intended.”
When the Crescent Design District was created in the early 2000s, with the accompanying zoning regulations adopted in 2013, the vision of town leaders and the planning staff was to create an urban, walkable environment, reminiscent of the nearby historic district. Form-based code zoning, which differs from traditional zoning in that it focuses on building form and site design rather than uses, was used in its development.
