Wilfire burning near the community of Nazko SHARE ON: The fire was discovered earlier today (Wednesday) just a few kilometres from the community. Jessica Mack is a Fire Information Officer with the Cariboo Fire Centre. “It is two hectares in size.  We do have an initial attack crew on site along with a helicopter, and we do have a response officer and a unit crew which is composed of 20 people that are en route to this incident.” Mack confirms that the initial attack crew flew out of the Quesnel Airport. She says there were some air tankers on site that were able to action the fire as well, but it is not yet under control.

Every Montanan is impacted by these longer more severe wildfire seasons and fire restrictions are one of many tools we have available to prevent human caused wildfire, Sleeper says. Dozens of counties as well as Crow Nation are issuing Stage 1 fire restrictions. These limit where to smoke, build fires and campfires and operate motorized vehicles off road and off trail.

Early Morning Fire Under Investigation SHARE ON: Cariboo Fire Centre A Cariboo Fire Centre crew was called in to attend a fire in the Lake City earlier today (June 3rd). Erin Bull, Fire Information Officer explains. “This morning there was a fire reported close to Williams Lake near Coleman Road. We did have 6 firefighters respond. They found the fire to be about 3 metres by metres in size and that fire is now out.” The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Bull said the fire danger rating through a lot of the Cariboo is moderate right now. There is only one active wildfire that is in the Chilcotin Zone and Bull said it’s less than a hectare in size and is under control at this time.
